Diverse Akteure gestalten Stadt – räumlich und sozial, mit und ohne Aufforderung oder Einladung, durch ihr Zusammenwirken, ihre Handlungsmöglichkeiten, Bedarfe und Interessen. Diese Ausgabe beschäftigt sich mit den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Teilhabe und Beteiligung in der Stadt und deren Entwicklungsprozessen, im Sinne von Zugang haben, teilnehmen und mitwirken.
Diverse actors shape the city – spatially and socially, with and without request or invitation, through their interaction, their possibilities for action, needs and interests. This issue is concerned with the possibilities and limits of social and civic participation in the city and its development processes, in the sense of having access, participating and contributing.

This pnd issue Productive Processes grapples with the social, economic, and physical relevance of industrial lands and their activities in cities around the globe. Different contexts, experiences and processes around productivity are discussed from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.

Creating safe urban spaces for women enhances a city’s overall inclusiveness. In the metropolitan Cuscatlán Park in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, series of comprehensive interventions, encompassing physical, socio-cultural, and educational aspects, were implemented to put this hypothesis to the test.
Die Schaffung von sicheren urbanen Räumen für Frauen erhöht die generelle Inklusivität einer Stadt. Eine Reihe umfassender Interventionen, die physische, sozio-kulturelle und bildungsbezogene Aspekte umfassen, wurden im Metropolitanpark Cuscatlán in San Salvador, der Hauptstadt von El Salvador, umgesetzt, um diese These auf den Prüfstand zu stellen.

The article examines policy documents on urban manufacturing to understand how they address issues related to land use, economic development, labor and resources. Based on this, opportunities to support the integration of new forms of manufacturing in urban contexts are identified.

Inspired by ongoing discourses for the productive city, this article argues for a shift in focus towards productive processes through a strong process view. The work draws on efforts from the pilot project on the Sustainable Adaptation of (Peri)Urban Industrial Lands (SAIL) to explore initial frameworks that might guide the analysis of future and empirical work.

Since 2019, the German government has been funding cities, municipalities and districts with the Model Projects Smart City (MPSC) program. The authors of this article were able to support the second and third selection rounds of the program with expert opinions and gain further insights through subsequent interviews with applicant municipalities.
Seit 2019 fördert die Bundesregierung deutsche Städte, Gemeinden und Kreise mit dem Programm Modellprojekte Smart City (MPSC). Die Autor:innen dieses Artikels konnten die zweite und dritte Auswahlrunde des Programms mit Fachgutachten unterstützen und durch anschließende Interviews mit antragstellenden Kommunen weitere Einblicke erlangen.

Das Ziel dieser Studie war die Motivation, Erwartungen und Erfolgsfaktoren von Beteiligung aus Sicht der Bürger:innen zu erfassen, die in vier wesentlichen Erkenntnissen und Herausforderungen für Bürgerbeteiligung in der Praxis sowie konkreten Maßnahmen für Prozessgestaltende dargestellt ist.
The aim of this study was to identify the motivation, expectations and success criteria of citizen participation from the perspective of citizens, which is outlined in four key findings and challenges for citizen participation in practice as well as concrete measures for process designers.
