About pnd
Planung neu denken, kurz pnd, ist eine Einladung zum gemeinsamen Nach- und Weiterdenken. Diese richtet sich an alle Akteure, die räumliche Entwicklungen in unterschiedlichen Rollen planen, steuern und mitgestalten. Planung ist die Vorwegnahme zukünftigen Handelns und damit Grundlage jeglicher menschlichen Tätigkeit. In der räumlichen Planung und Entwicklung geht es um die Zukunft von Orten, Quartieren, Städten und Regionen. Die Fragen was? wer? wie? wann? und wozu? sind dabei wechselseitig miteinander verbunden. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Zusammenhänge, die auf vielfältige Art und Weise zu erkunden, weiterzuentwickeln und immer wieder neu zu denken sind: der Mensch in seiner Umwelt, die Verknüpfung von Wissen und Handeln, das Sondieren von Problemen und das Entwerfen von Lösungen, die Entwicklung von Akteuren und ihre Zusammenarbeit in Netzwerken und die enge Verzahnung der Ebenen Raum, Organisation, Werte in der räumlichen Entwicklung und Gestaltung.
pnd – rethinking planning ist eine Plattform mit dem Ziel, den Wissensaustausch und Dialog zwischen Disziplinen sowie zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis zu stärken. Die Zeitschrift ist Sprachrohr und Seismograph für räumliche Themen und Entwicklungen sowie die Reflexion über Planung. Es ermöglicht Erkundungen, zeigt Konzepte und Projekte im Werden und lädt ein, offene Fragen zu stellen. Die Zeitschrift richtet sich an Forscher:innen, Praktiker:innen, Studierende und die interessierte Öffentlichkeit.
Planung neu denken wurde in den Jahren 2005 und 2006 mit drei Buchveröffentlichungen von Klaus Selle gestartet und seit 2006 online fortgesetzt. Bis 2019 wurden in 34 Ausgaben vielfältige Themen und Prozesse der Stadtentwicklung beleuchtet. pnd – rethinking planning wird seit 2021 unter neuer Redaktion und in neuer Gestalt fortgeführt. Die Zeitschrift erscheint ein bis zweimal im Jahr. Die Heftthemen werden von wechselnden Herausgeber:innen begleitet. Darüber hinaus besteht Raum für freie Beiträge. Der Blog What/Next ergänzt die Zeitschrift und gibt vielfältige Impulse für die Diskussion neuer Themen. Zeitschrift und Blog erscheinen in deutsch und englisch und ermöglichen die Verknüpfung von Forschungs- und Planungskulturen aus beiden Sprachräumen.

Rethinking Planning, pnd for short, is an invitation to reflect and think ahead together. It is addressed to all actors who plan, steer and shape spatial developments in different roles. Planning is the anticipation of future action and thus the basis of all human activity. Spatial planning and development is about the future of places, neighborhoods, cities and regions. The questions of what? who? how? when? and what for? are related to one another. The focus is on interdependencies that need to be explored, further developed and constantly rethought in various ways: humans in their environment, the linkage of knowledge and action, the exploration of problems and the design of solutions, the development of actors and their cooperation in networks, and the close interconnection of the levels of space, organization, values in spatial development and design.
pnd – rethinking planning is a platform with the aim of strengthening knowledge sharing and dialogue between disciplines as well as between science and practice. The journal is a mouthpiece and seismograph for spatial topics and developments as well as for the reflection on planning. It enables exploration, shows concepts and projects in progress and invites to ask open questions. The journal is directed at scholars, practitioners, students, and the interested public.
Planung neu denken was launched in 2005 and 2006 with three book publications by Klaus Selle before continuing online since 2006. By 2019, 34 editions highlighted a wide range of topics and processes of urban development. Starting from 2021, pnd – rethinking planning will continue with a new editorial team and in a new design. The journal will be published once or twice a year. Changing editors will accompany the magazine topics. Additionally, there is space for free contributions on various topics. The blog What/Next complements the journal and provides impulses for the discussion of new themes. Both journal and blog are published in German and English and enable research and planning cultures to be linked from both language areas.
